Rio Ave v AC Milan: Can adding Maldini make the difference ?
AC Milan faced Shamrock Rovers and FK Bodo in the previous rounds, not really sides which should scare a big club as AC Milan, but wow! It was really close against FK Bodo with the Italians narrowly winning 3-2.
Their repetition for this game was against Crotone in the Serie A, which was won 0-2 by Milan. Rio Ave managed to take Besiktas to penalties last round and then win those pens, but I don’t see them pulling an upset once again.
Rio Ave host Milan tonight in what could prove to be an extremely tight affair.
The Portuguese outfit have only made the group stages once in their history. However, will be high on confidence after earning the scalp of Turkish giants Besiktas on penalties in the previous round.
Although they seem a bit light up top, they have a solid defence and play to nick a goal on the counter.
Milan are in fine form with 4 consecutive victories in all competitions, in fact unbeaten in 20/21.
With Ibrahimovic and Rebic still out through injury, will the 19 year old son of Paolo and grandson of Cesare be chosen to follow in the proud European tradition of the family? He certainly looks a danger up top and can cause the Rio Ave defence big problems.
This should be a tight affair, but I’m going for a low scoring narrow Milan victory.
